Dressed To Kill’ is what we used to believe,  but today we need to ‘Dress to Impress’ – not just as an accessory, but as something that defines our personality. As the popular saying goes, ‘Dress How You Want To Be Addressed’, we are more and more accustomed to the concept of ‘power dressing’, not only in our professional field, but also in our social lives.

I will not go into the definition of ‘power dressing’ because we all know what it is. For me, it is choosing the right attire for the right occasion that suits your personality. Your appearance is a direct reflection of who you are. So, dress in a way that conveys YOURSELF.

Here are some quick tidbits about how to dress for work:

Western Formals: Generally, many of us prefer to wear western formals to work. But, we tend to get confused about the right combination or type that suits us best. Here are some simple rules to follow.

Shirts: It is better to stick to the classics and go for the bold colours, even pastels and bright hues are should also be a part of the wardrobe. Choose navy blue or burgundy, or mauve, which makes you stand out yet are soothing to the eye. You also need a few striped ones- go for thinner stripes mostly single lines with white or black. You can have a mix of both full-sleeve and half-sleeve shirts. A plain white one is a must.

Apart from formal shirts, you can also opt for formal tops, which goes well with trousers and khakis. Choose the ones which can be tucked in neatly. And, of course, invest in proper blazers and formals jackets. You will need then often.

Trousers: You need to have a few common classic one – black, ash or tinted brown. Striped ones don’t look too formal. Straight cut trousers or khakis work well, but you can also have a few cigarette trousers in stock, but go for single coloured ones.
